You know you've been traveling for work too long when:

the valet has your car ready for you before you even walk outside
the bartender knows your drink.  and your room.
your menstrual cycle repeats (this applies to the guys out there, too)
you obtain a plant in your room
room service knows not to knock before noon
the guy in the gym asks if you live here
you've had to refill your gas tank twice
your mail starts showing up at the hotel
you attend more celebrations here than the city you live in
you're suddenly part of "memberships"
your heart begins to feel like it's missing something.

Everyday is February 14th

Ah yes, the holiday everyone hates to love and loves to hate.  The holiday that Hallmark and the rest of the letterpress are able to keep their sales stable two months into the new year.  The holiday single girls loathe and single boys celebrate.  The holiday with the greatest puns.  The holiday that is actually not celebrated in Mexcio....well, supposedly.  The holiday with the most dinner reservations, ever.  The holiday where bow and arrows are legal.  In reality, it's the holiday that doesnt mean anything more than acknowledging, loving and appreciating those in your life...whether you choose to buy that big stuffed teddy bear with a heart sewn to its paws, or not.

This alone makes me want to see the movie

El Rey: St. Vincent w/ Wildbirds & Peacedrums

Turns out the music gods were on my side last night.  I made it to El Rey Theater just in time to order a Jameson on the rocks and claim my space for the next three and half hours of listening pleasure.  The theater is quite lovely.  If you ever get the chance to see a show there, I don't think you would be disappointed.  It's small and intimate and it could probably make any recorded album sound like absolute crap.  The opener was a two-body band from Sweden, called Wildbirds & Peacedrums.  Without any bias toward Swedes, I thought they were great.  Check out one of their songs here:

They played for about 45 minutes before St. Vincent took the stage.  Right off the bat: amazing lighting design throughout the show.  Annie Clark is just too darling to handle and her fellow band mates are the dreamiest.   It wasn't the most amazing show I have been to, but I'm glad I got to check them out while I am here in Los Angeles.  She couldn't stop mentioning how great it was to be back in LA and that it is on her list of top five cities in the Universe.  I don't know about that....but hey, to each their own.  They are a talented group, for sure.  Top three songs of the night: Marrow, Your Lips Are Red and a cover of Dig A Pony that undoubtedly left the boys in the audience with a mess in their pants.

Poor Packing

Either I was depressed or I had four too many Prosecco's at the Kitchen, cause I somehow ended up with five black shirts and a pair of jeans on this production.

As Tears Go By

Marianne Faithfull has the voice of a certified angel.  I wasn't aware of her history with the Rolling Stones but recently read an article from New Musical Express where she said: "My first move was to get a Rolling Stone as a boyfriend.  I slept with three and decided the lead singer was the best bet."

Watching the Season Premiere of LOST...

was like trying to break up with a boyfriend that you care deeply about but know the relationship eventually needs to end.  It's that boyfriend who you've been dating for five years and you're about to move to a new city in a couple of months and there is all that anticipation of how it is going to end.  And every Tuesday, when you hang out for an hour, you're reminded of why you should just end it already.  But You know you've come this far, so you should probably just ride it out with the good and the bad.  Some weeks are great.  Other weeks you're left questioning the past five years together.  But no matter what, at the end of the day, he always makes you smile with some quirky remark like, "bad robot"

A Day in the Life
