The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear

Great remix of Sir Yorke, if you don't have already:

Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love

Stick Boy liked Match Girl,
He liked her a lot.
He liked her cute figure,
he thought she was hot.

But could a flame ever burn
for a match and a stick?
It did quite literally;
he burned up quick.

Special delivery

One of my resolutions this year is to stay in better contact with my friends and family, by simply checking in more frequently.  Last year, I unintentionally let work rule my life.  So this year, I'm making an effort to change that.  And with that change, I am trying this thing where I actually pick up the phone and call people.  No one calls anymore.  It's always a text message or an e-mail.  I decided I'm going to start calling and making it personal and sincere.  "Hey, want to go out tonight?" "Was just listening to the radio and heard 'put a little love in your heart' and it made me think of you."   "Can you give me a ride?"  I also want to send more snail-mail.  What the hell happened to that?  I've been thinking about this one.  People used to write to give updates on their lives, what they did that week or month and it was nice.  But that has recently been replaced by status updates second by second.  I certainly dont need to write my friend Beryl to tell her I went to the gym today, because she probably knew that before I even got there.  But, snail mail is great for the surprises.  Maybe it's just a drawing of my face or a joke or pencil shavings.  I dont know.  We used to do that.  Fill envelopes with shavings and have a laugh.  It was fun and I'm ready to bring that fun back.

Tell Me

Tell me I'm clever,
Tell me I'm kind,
Tell me I'm talented,
Tell me I'm cute,
Tell me I'm sensitive,
Graceful and wise,
Tell me I'm perfect-
But tell me the truth.

- Shel Silverstein

Smiled with the rising sun

This was my view at 6:30 this morning when I had to wake up early for a client call.  I had a pretty bad night sleeping but this really made waking up early worth it.  I cherish sunsets, but it's pretty rare these days that I am able to catch a sunrise.  It was special for me.  I also love those days when the right song randomly comes on the radio, like a surprise knock on your door.  Today, on the way into work, it was Bob Marley's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright"
Rise up this morning,
Smiled with the rising sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', "This is my message to you"

I haven't done laundry in a month and that is unforgivable...

Candy Says

I once heard that after writing this song, it quite possibly hit too close to home for Lou Reed and has since been sung by Doug Yule.

I wish he could sing me "Perfect Day" right now and
everything in that moment would be good.

Korean Karaoke

This is me at S Bar in Korea Town LA holding what is the largest bottle of champagne and glass, ever in the history of the world*.  I swear to the singing gods, this was the future and we were in 2063.  There were laser beams and all sorts of hieroglyphics, it was unreal.  We had a private section the size of a living room with a cinema screen and real plants and microphones and a sound system.  For the four+ hours I got sucked into this zone, I am convinced I was teleported to another country.  NO ONE WAS SPEAKING ENGLISH!  It was incredible!

*As I know it

Koreans Do It Right

I dont' know where they learned how to BBQ, but they fuckin learned it right.  Oh my god.
I recently hit up a new joint in LA called Mana.  I highly recommend.  In fact it's in close running with my fav spot, Soot Bull Jeep.  But listen, these people at Mana know how to throw down and if you spend a lot of cha-ching while you're there, they will literally bathe you in champagne.
I shit you not.

A ticket to hell, please

My yoga instructor once said, "If youre going through hell, just keep on going."  I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with him right about now.

The great escape

this is exactly how I used to escape from my crib.  my mom used to find me on the other side, with no explanation except I would one day grow up to love hiking and bikram yoga.

Earlectric

I'll start by saying the title of this post is the main reason that I never pursued copywriting.  And I'll follow that up by saying, it of course made me laugh out loud....alone.

This morning I was running on the treadmill at my second home, earphones plugged into the attached TV, when suddenly I felt a shock in my left ear.  Alarming at first, I kept running.  About a minute later *ZAP* shocked in my right ear.  This time it hurt and then I realized that the earphone jack attached to the treadmill was electrocuting me in my ears!

If you know me at all, you know my hearing is already at a questionable level, and any further damage is quite risky.  Dont worry.  You'll all be glad to know my hearing is still as equally bad as it before I got shocked.

My neighbor knows exactly what he wants

When you suck, and you know it, the only thing left to do is change

I recently got to be a part of a really cool campaign for Dominos.  I had my doubts at first, but I think it was a really bold move on their part and overall the campaign kicks ass.  Check out the full-length documentary:

And here is the spoof that someone had the time to make it.

the best part of my job is having the opportunity to be involved in making cool shit and getting people to talk about it.  Whether they like it or not.

Holiday Hype

The days between Thanksgiving and New Years tend to be my favorite days of the year - filled with familiar smiles, tasty food and joyous hype.  Except this year, I nearly missed out on the hype part.  Felt kinda weird at first, but somehow Thanksgiving, Christmas and new Years ended up becoming perfectly low key and relaxing.  I'm bummed a little that it's all over, but I do believe it is a new year and it's time to move forward.
